DrupalCon Portland 2024 is coming up next month! The event provides good opportunities to get help with three major transitions of Drupal in 2024. Drupal 7's end of life is near, while Drupal 11 is released this year. Finally, DrupalCI testing is superceeded by much improved GitLab CI pipelines shortly after DrupalCon. Here are some highlights of related events to not miss at DrupalCon!
Drupal 7's end of life is January 5, 2025
Drupal 7's end of life is on January 5, 2025 so this is the last DrupalCon in North America to get support in your migrations before that. There is an introductory session to the open source Acquia: Migrate Accelerate on Tuesday afternoon. Then there are several sessions to get more professional in the process, including doing better content migrations on Tuesday afternoon, even perspectives for non-developers on content migration also on Tuesday afternoon. Matt Glaman presents about his backward compatibility layer Retrofit on Monday morning as well.
There will also be direct mentoring opportunities. We are hosting a dedicated BoF titled "Get help migrating from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10" on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30pm with Benji Fisher (core migrate system maintainer), Mauricio Dinarte (migration trainer) and Wim Leers (key architect behind the open source Acquia: Migrate Accelerate tool). Look for the dedicated table on contribution day too!
Drupal 11's release is in 2024
Dries Buytaert will surely give a brief update of Drupal 11 in his State of Drupal keynote on Monday. I'm presenting a deep dive to Drupal 11 on Tuesday for those interested in the details.
We'll help people get their code ready for Drupal 11 in a BoF titled "These go to 11! Get help porting projects to Drupal 11" on Monday at 2:30pm. Join to meet Matt Glaman (a lead Drupal Rector maintainer), Kristen Pol (contrib readiness coordinator) and myself there. Also look for the dedicated table on contribution day! I'll come with limited edition enthusiast stickers (thanks Ash Sullivan for the design!).
DrupalCI testing will end soon after DrupalCon
DrupalCI and all patch testing will be turned off on July 1, 2024. Learn about the details in the Drupal.org update on Monday afternoon or get a high level summary in the Initiative Keynote on Wednesday morning. DrupalCI is replaced with GitLab CI. There are also sessions on advanced GitLab CI usage, including AI integrations and automations for module development on Tuesday afternoon and massive Drupal deployments with GitLab CI also on Tuesday afternoon.
We are organizing hands-on mentoring for making the switch from DrupalCI to GitLab CI as well. Join the "Get help converting your project from DrupalCI to GitLab CI" BoF on Monday at 1pm. Fran-Garcia Linares (drupal.org's GitLab CI guru) and Jürgen Haas (GitLab CI expert) will be there to help you out. Look for Fran on contribution day as well!
